I saw this posted at Neatorama recently. I was wondering if perhaps Austin or anyone here knows any background info about this tea auction and perhaps about why this particular tea went for such a high price. There's lots of great green tea out there that doesn't cost so much -- I am happy with those but am still curious about the teas that get sold for such incredible amounts of money.

  2. It is true that there are competitions, but there was no international tea expo and no auction that I am aware of. We buy the best Shefeng Longjing from an old man that has won so many competitions over the last fifty years that he doesn't bother competing any longer. The price we pay, although high, is not as outrageous as indicated on that sight. I was just in Hongzhou yesterday and I would have heard of an International expo, and since I spent the day with tea makers and thier families in Longjing village, I'm sure I would have heard about the auction.
